Long Description:
The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is accepting applications for an Assistant Scientist I (80170P) to join the histopathology section of the Department of Veterinary Pathology. The Histopathology Lab engages in the missions of service, instruction, and research. The laboratory receives 7000 submissions from veterinarians and researchers annually.

This position will be responsible for performing, developing and validating histopathological assays used for diagnostic and research purposes, including but not limited to Immunohistochemistry (IHC), special stains, as well as managing research caseload. Additional responsibilities include overall management, coordination, and supervision of the histology laboratory; acting as liaison between pathologists and laboratory personnel for research or case-series submissions; and assisting diagnostic pathologists with additional research and data collection as needed.

Minimum qualifications for this position include a bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience. Degree must be in Animal Science, Biology, or a related field. Experience must be in a histology lab. Preferred education and experience include the following: experience in a clinical or research laboratory; management experience including training and supervising; experience in manual and automated histology procedures; understanding of laboratory safety protocols, quality controls, and standard operating procedures for laboratory testing; and, certification or eligibility for certification in the American Society of Clinical Pathologists Histotechnologist (ASCP HTL).

The successful candidate will possess superior organizational skills, a meticulous attention to detail, the ability to think autonomously, and will have effective supervisory skills.
