Histotechnologist - Healthcare Sciences (Immunohistochemistry)
Job Responsibilities
As a IHC Lead Technologist, you will perform daily, routine, and specialized histology techniques and procedures, including: embedding, microtomy, grossing, processing, h&e staining, special staining, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and equipment maintenance. You will be under the general supervision of the IHC (immunohistochemistry) manager and lead/supervise the team in performing all above duties.
Additional responsibilities of the IHC Lead/Supervisor Technologist include:
• Lead and supervise the IHC/Histology team to ensure all procedures are followed accordingly
• Ability to teach and train staff on proper IHC procedures
• Identify areas of improvement to increase efficiency, accuracy and turnaround time
• Loads auto-stainer for H&E and nuclear fast red staining
• Preparing histologic slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by pathologists
• Staining tissue specimens with dyes or other chemicals to make cell details visible under microscopes
• Cutting sections of body tissues for microscopic examination using microtomes
• Mounting tissue specimens on glass slides
• Follows the laboratory’s policies and procedures, including safety
• Performs IHC staining according to SOP
• Assists in the orientation and training of personnel upon request of supervisor
• Receives or organizes samples and records; instrument maintenance
• Orders and stocks supplies
• Maintains inventory levels and monitors material usage rates
• Prepares and stores reagents; reagent inventory
• Data entry and record keeping
• Daily upkeep of all lab areas, and keeps laboratory clean and organized
• Assists microdissection/histology supervisor in monitoring and improving workflow and TAT
• Participates in process improvement projects
• Communicates and immediately notifies supervisor of laboratory problems
• Supports development and evaluation studies
• Performs work under CA state laws for unlicensed personnel
Histotechnologist - Healthcare Sciences (Immunohistochemistry)
Job Requirements
Successful candidates for the IHC Lead/Supervisor should have experience with IHC. Someone with ASCP certification in histology or IHC would be a good fit for this role.
Additional requirements of the IHC Lead/Supervisor role include:
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• ASCP certification HT or HTL
• Computer Savvy
• Solid/Strong background in IHC
• 3+ years of experience as a histology supervisor or IHC Supervisor
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to delegate priorities to ensure the most efficient turnaround time
• Problem solving abilities related to instrument and/or process troubleshooting
• Commitment to detailed record-keeping consistent with all regulatory requirements
• Ability to work well with all levels of management and employees
• Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally
• Strong work ethic including attendance, work and time management
